Coral Gables DAR Chapter Update: Vol. 1, Issue 2

Our Chapter Regent, Patrice Bravo, has spearheaded a fun, creative and enduring project that all our members participated in. It is a meaningful way to help our women veterans who struggle to make ends meet or find themselves in an emergency. We collected, donated or purchased items through member donations. Some members donated items in bulk or purchased from Amazon or other online sources. During our March meeting, the daughters of the Coral Gables Chapter assembled approximately 200 kits.

Members donated a variety of items including: toothbrushes, toothpaste, soap, hydrating cream, dental floss, Q-tips, cotton balls, perfume, hair products, shaving razors, and tampons. Items were placed into clear plastic toiletry bags. A short inspirational poem, I Saida Prayer for You, was included in each kit. Finally, a Coral Gables DAR label was placed on the outside of each bag. 100 Kits were presented by Mary Ellen Scherl, on behalf of our chapter, to Virama Oler of the South Dade Female Veteran Alliance. The remaining 100 kits will be donated to another deserving organization this summer.
